IFP: Mayor not present during fatal ambush of councillor

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has found no evidence linking the Mayor of Msinga Councillor Mlethi Ndlovu as the brains behind the assassination of IFP Msinga Councillor, Siyanda Magubane.

This follows a video during which a councillor in the region allegedly accused Mayor Ndlovu of the murder of Magubane.

However, the IFP did not take these allegations lightly as it prompted an investigation on their end.

“The IFP – having been made aware of a video wherein Cllr Lungisani Ntuli of Msinga, whilst speaking at the funeral service of slain IFP Msinga Councillor, Siyanda Magubane, accused the Mayor of Msinga, Cllr Mlethi Ndlovu, of being behind the murder of Cllr Magubane – dispatched a National Council Task Team (NCTT) to investigate the statements by Cllr Ntuli, as well as the allegations levelled against Mayor Ndlovu,” said IFP National Spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa MP.

IFP FINDS NO EVIDENCE AGAINTS THE MAYOR

“At its ordinary meeting on Monday, 3 October 2022, the IFP NEC received the report of the NCTT. In the main, the NCTT focused on the allegations levelled against Mayor Cllr Ndlovu; and in its conclusion, the NCTT has found no evidence of the Mayor being present at the scene of the fatal ambush, as he was at a municipal function at the time.”

He said furthermore, to date Ntuli has not presented any information to the police; and the Party encourages him to engage them.

“Notwithstanding the seriousness of the matter at hand, the NCTT has recommended the Party should wait for the police investigation (to run its course) before it considers whether or not to take any actions against the Mayor,” Hlengwa said, adding that the NEC supports this recommendation.

He went on to say there are several other matters and recommendations raised by the NCTT, which are receiving the attention of the NEC.

“In this regard, the NEC’s efforts will be led by the IFP’s National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.”

THE PARTY CALLS FOR THE POLICE TO PROBE THE MURDER

“The IFP further reiterates the call for the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies to investigate the murder of Cllr Magubane with urgency and to ensure a successful prosecution of those involved in this heinous crime,” he concluded.
