A 21-year-old rapist has been sentenced to two life terms by the High Court in Polokwane. Mehlodi Robert Baloyi was convicted of raping four victims between the ages of 15 and 22 at different locations.

    Baloyi received a lengthy sentence

The rapes occurred in the Westenburg and Seshego policing precincts between August 2019 and October 2022. Baloyi, in addition to the two life terms for two counts of rape, was also sentenced to 10 years for another two counts of rape, 10 years for robbery and another two years for theft.

    The sentences will run concurrently.

The rapist used ‘free tattoos’ to lure his victims

It was reported that the rapist used Facebook to advertise body tattoos. Customers who were interested in the tattoos would need to message him through the social media platform. Baloyi would then offer them free tattoos, disguising it as a marketing strategy.

Limpopo South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said that the victims, who agreed to go to Baloyi’s tattoo shop, would be taken to an abandoned RDP house.

“Upon the victims agreeing to come to his tattoo shop, he would then take them to an abandoned RDP house at Westenburg Extension 71 and then rape them. Some of the victims were robbed of their cellphones,”

    said Mojapelo.

All the cases were reported to the SAPS

Mojapelo explained that all the cases were reported to the SAPS in Westenburg and Seshego. The cases were then transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences for further handling, reports TimesLIVE.

Pretoria: Man guilty of rape, murder of six-year-old girl

In related news, the High Court in Pretoria found Moses Makoso, a 31-year-old man from De Deur in Johannesburg, guilty of premeditated murder, rape and kidnapping of a six-year-old girl, as well as obstruction of justice.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the shocking crime occurred on 29 April 2021. The girl and two boys had gone to the bush in Maboloka, Brits, which was near Makoso’s home, to get cucumbers.

When the boys returned to Makoso’s house, they found no one. They then told the young girl’s aunt about what had happened. She later visited her local police station and reported the child missing. Read the full story here.
