SANDF member suffers head injury during practice of Air Show demonstration

A member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) fell and injured his head while practising for a demonstration for the Africa Aerospace and Defence Air Show.

The SANDF confirms that one of their members got injured. This was during the practice demonstration at the Waterkloof Airforce Base on Thursday.

The member fell onto the ground during a coordinated practice. The members were practising partaking in preparatory aerobics for the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2022 show.

He suffered head injuries, said SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini.

“The member was immediately airlifted to Montana Hospital for assessment by neurologists.”

Details regarding the circumstances around the incident are still sketchy.

“Members of the media will be updated once all circumstances surrounding the incident have been established,” Dlamini said.

AFRICA AEROSPACE AND DEFENCE EXHIBITION RETURNS AFTER COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition has finally returned after a long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the largest defence and aerospace exhibition on the continent and takes place every two years.

But after the pandemic, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise, officially opened the Air Show exhibition on Wednesday. It is set to close and conclude on Sunday, 25 September.

Through this exhibition, the expo will showcase the capabilities of the armed forces from both South Africa and abroad, said Modise.

The Air Show is made up of three trade days and two air show days. It consists of indoor and outdoor exhibitions, a hospitality chalet line, a static aircraft park, demonstrations and displays.

This year marks the 11^th edition of the defence exhibition.

“Over the years, AAD has become synonymous with South African excellence, world-class capability and, of course, our exceptional warmth and hospitality. I am informed that AAD ranks amongst the top six defence exhibitions in the world in terms of its magnitude, scale and size,” said Modise.

Exhibitors and trade visitors have an opportunity to interact directly with various stakeholders. The public, on the other hand, will be able to witness the spectacular display of the air force and aviation sector.
