A suspect who is among those who allegedly kidnapped and later murdered a woman is expected to Tshitale Magistrates Court in Limpopo on Monday 24 October 2022.
The 29-year-old was arrested at Greenside under Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane on Saturday, 23 October and is facing charges of kidnapping and murder.
WOMAN ALLEGEDLY KIDNAPPED AND MURDERED
The 47-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and her body was later found in her house at Masethe village in the Tshitale policing area outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the deceased’s brother had on 15 September 2022, received a call from his sister’s cellphone and a male person informed him that he had kidnapped his sister and that a ransom of R5000 was needed for her release.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the matter was immediately reported to the police and a case of kidnapping was opened. The Provincial Organised Crime Unit then took over the case for further investigation.
Mojapelo said the woman’s body was discovered on 9 October 2022 in her house, already in a state of decomposition. She was identified as Nkhangweleni Mavis Musesi and 0olice consequently opened a case of murder.
“The arrested suspect was reportedly found in possession of a cellphone that was used to demand the ransom,” he said.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has hailed the members of the investigating team for working around the clock to ensure the suspects are arrested.
Hadebe further appealed to community members to assist with information about the remaining suspects.
